John Duranko (President and CEO) was born in Uniontown, PA. in 1950, he attended Laurel Highlands High School and graduated in the class of 1967. At the age of eighteen he began his apprenticeship working for an architectural firm while attending college at Penn State University. This experience tempered his architectural training by exposing him to real world architectural solutions while experiencing the creative atmosphere of a formal college education. He received his bachelor of Architecture from Pennsylvania State University in 1972. After serving his apprenticeship, he received his license to practice architecture in Pennsylvania in 1975 at the age of twenty five. After becoming a registered Architect, John began his own architecture practice specializing in commercial architecture in Pittsburgh, PA. After he enjoyed a vacation in San Antonio, Texas he decided to move there in 1980 to join the building boom. There his architecture practice specialized in commercial and large office building complexes.
A commission for a new freestanding restaurant concept became available in Florida in 1987. When the project was completed he realized the huge potential that Florida had for his newfound interest in restaurant and bar design, so he relocated there.
